A Basketball Legacy N.S. Hillyard’s son, Marvin, was a star performer at Central High School and on the Olive Street Methodist Church team sponsored by the company. Marvin’s early death from influenza during WWI initiated a driving spirit in his father to create a basketball dynasty that would capture national championships, teach this relatively new game to others and perpetuate the Hillyard spirit of competition that earned a permanent display in the prestigious Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts, as well as an outstanding reputation in all of basketball’s historic venues. |
