FREE Hillyard Guide To
Restroom and Shower Room Care!
Hillyard restroom and shower room maintenance products have
been formulated to make your toughest cleaning problems seem easy.
The proprietary chemistry of Hillyard products provides you with
consistent quality and performance that is proven daily in facilities
throughout the world. Our restroom and shower room products uphold
the reputation we have earned for setting cleaning standards for
over 95 years.
The Importance of Clean Restrooms
It's a unique dilemma: You and your maintenance staff maintain
glossy floors, bright carpets, pristine baseboards, and sparkling
glass, but should the occupants of your building encounter just
one dirty restroom or shower area, they tend to form a negative
opinion of the entire facility.
Restrooms and shower rooms have become the barometers of overall
building cleanliness. These areas carry the stigma of being the
breeding grounds for germs, bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
It's a reputation that is well earned. Restrooms and shower
areas are, in fact, ideal breeding grounds for many undesirable
organisms and the odors they produce. Harmful organisms thrive
in the warmth and moisture present in restrooms and shower rooms.
The Hillyard approach to restroom and shower room maintenance
will help you keep your restrooms and shower facilities clean,
bright, and sanitary without resorting to complicated programs
or expensive maintenance procedures or products.

RESTROOM RENOVATION
The first strategy of modern restroom maintenance is "Start
Clean to Stay Clean." A clean, renovated restroom is much
easier to keep clean on a daily basis. Renovation can usually
be accomplished with just a few products: Hillyard Extra Strength
CSP cleaner, Tile and Grout Cleaner/Renovator, and your favorite
Hillyard hospital-grade disinfectant. Extra Strength CSP clings
to surfaces to remove hard water build-up, soap scum, rust deposits,
and other stubborn and unsightly stains. Tile and Grout Cleaner/Renovator
is perfect for serious restroom floor renovations. Hillyard offers
a variety of quality hospital grade disinfectants including Q.T.®, Re-Juv-Nal®, Vindicator+®, and Hillyard Lemon Disinfectant.
Each of these disinfectants provides broad-spectrum killing power
to control mold, mildew, athlete's foot fungi, and other germs
and the odors they cause.
Products and Equipment:
- Hillyard Extra Strength CSP
- Hillyard disinfectant/cleaner
(Q.T., Re-Juv-Nal, Vindicator+,
or Hillyard Lemon Disinfectant)
- Tile & Grout Cleaner/Renovator
- Tile & Grout Seal
- Mild Bowl And Porcelain Cleaner (optional)
- Hillyard HCL Bowl Cleaner/Disinfectant (optional)
- Hillyard Window Clean+®
- Safety goggles and gloves
- Two-quart pump-up sprayer
- Cleaning cloth
- Bowl brush
- Mop bucket and wringer
- Synthetic disinfecting mop or flat mop
- Wet Floor signs
- Broom and dust pan
- Hand soap and air freshener refills
- Paper refills
- 175 RPM floor machine with grout brush
- Wet vacuum or squeegee
- Inspection mirror
Procedures:
1) Set out Wet Floor signs.
2) Always utilize proper personal protective equipment including
goggles and rubber gloves when using cleaning chemicals.
3) Sweep floors and pick up any loose trash and debris.
4) Remember to always work from the outside perimeter to the center
of the restroom. Move to the toilet bowls and urinals and push
the water over the trap to expose the water ring.
5) Apply CSP evenly to toilets, urinals, and fixtures. Allow CSP
10 to 15 minutes dwell time to effectively remove heavy soil build-up.
Hillyard also offers a variety of hydrochloric acid bowl cleaner/disinfectants
to remove heavy buildup.
6) Next, use a hand pad to spread CSP evenly on the sinks and
lavatory. Again, allow CSP 10 to 15 minutes of dwell time.
7) Dust vents, lights, and other fixtures with a synthetic duster.
Work from the top down to avoid spreading the dust.
8) Empty trash, refill soap dispensers and paper products, and
clean mirrors while CSP is working.
9) After allowing sufficient dwell time, return to toilet bowls
and urinals and swab as you flush several times. Pay particular
attention to undersides of the flush ring. Use a small inspection
mirror to check cleaning.
10) Return to the sinks and lavatories and rinse with clean water
using a white hand pad or sponge to wipe away soap film, hard
water deposits, and stains.
11) Properly mix your Hillyard disinfectant in a 2-quart pump-up
sprayer and spray onto fixtures, toilets, urinals, walls, sinks,
and the undersides of lavatories. Allow 10 minutes of contact
time for disinfectant to properly destroy bacteria, viruses, fungi,
and other pathogens.
12) Now clean and disinfect partitions and walls using a flat
mop. This is a valuable time and labor saver.
13) Remember to wipe toilet seats and fixtures dry after allowing
disinfectant 10 minutes of dwell time.
14) Complete the job by wiping down push plates, kick plates,
doorknobs, and light switches on your way out of the restroom.
15) Next, clean the floor with your chosen Hillyard disinfectant/cleaner.
(For exceptionally soiled floors, consider first renovating with
Tile & Grout Cleaner/Renovator and a single brush floor machine
equipped with a tile brush). Mop the disinfectant solution on
the floor, working your way toward the door without tracking on
the clean floor.
16) Lastly, Hillyard Tile and Grout Seal may be applied to clean,
dry porous grout and tile flooring to provide a protective shield
against soils and hard water deposits. The protective barrier
of Tile and Grout Seal will make future cleaning and maintenance
easier to complete. Please refer to the product literature for
specific use instructions.

SHOWER ROOM RENOVATION
As with restroom maintenance, renovation of an existing shower
room will remove built-up dirt, stains, soap film, and hard water
deposits so you can start with a clean base of operation. A renovated
shower room will take less time and labor to keep clean. Renovation
can usually be accomplished with Extra Strength CSP, Tile And
Grout Cleaner/Renovator, and your Hillyard disinfectant of choice.

with a swivel scrub brush. To avoid streaking, work from the bottom
up, spreading CSP evenly on walls and fixtures.

a hand pad to scrub away the heavy buildup on soap trays, shower
heads, and other fixtures in the shower room.
4) Scrub the entire wall with the swivel scrub brush.
5) Finish by rinsing walls and fixtures with clean water.
6) To renovate unglazed tile shower floors, spread Tile And Grout

brush under a single brush floor machine. After scrubbing is complete,
rinse the floor with clean water.
7) Finish by disinfecting the entire shower room with your Hillyard
disinfectant of choice. Pour the disinfectant into the spray gun
container from the Hillyard Shower Room Cleaning Kit. Refer to
the instruction sheet included in the kit for the correct metering
tip for your chosen disinfectant.

solution on shower room floors, walls, and fixtures. This will
disinfect and guard against bacteria, athlete's foot fungi, mold,
and mildew. After spraying the shower room, do not rinse. Let
the disinfectant air dry to maximize effectiveness.
WEEKLY SHOWER ROOM MAINTENANCE
The Hillyard approach to shower room maintenance hinges on
the simple cleaning procedures performed with just two products:
the Hillyard disinfectant of your choice for disinfecting and
cleaning, plus Shower Foam® fast-acting shower room cleaner.
Daily cleaning utilizes a disinfectant to prevent the growth of
mold, mildew, athlete's foot fungus, and other unwanted microorganisms.
Weekly maintenance enhances the daily cleaning by using the thick
lather foam generated by Shower Foam to dissolve soap films, body
oils, and hard water deposits that can build up during the week.
