​1907​


  • ​​​​​N.S. Hillyard establishes the Hillyard Companies in St. Joseph, Mo.


1910's​


  • Hillyard invents what is to be considered modern day gym finish with the introduction of Diamond® Gym Finish.

  • Super Shine-All®, a natural-based cleaner is introduced. Ninety years later, it becomes Green Seal™-certified.

  • N.S. Hillyard is awarded U.S. Patents for a paper towel and tissue dispenser design and soap dispenser design.

  • The iconic "Checkerboard" logo, a symbol of unrelenting quality, is trademarked.


1920's


  • Hillyard constructs new manufacturing facilities that include the largest gymnasium west of the Mississippi used for product testing.

  • The Hillyard Shine-All's basketball team wins back-to-back National AAU Championships in 1925 and 1926.

  • Special Gymnasium Finish is introduced.​


1930's


  • The company marks its 25th anniversary with the introduction of Super Gymnasium Finish.

  • N.S. Hillyard is awarded a U.S. Patent on an innovative dust mop design.

  • Super Gymnasium Finish is introduced.


1940's​​​


  • The decade of World War II sees the introduction of three new products: Renovator, Star® Gym Finish and Surga-Han hand soap.


1950's


  • ​The company marks its 50th anniversary with the introduction of Trophy® Gym Finish.

  • A new world headquarters with offices, research and development, manufacturing and distribution is dedicated in St. Joseph, Mo.


1960's


  • ​​​​In​trod​uced Re-Juv-Nal® Disinfectant.

  • ​Introduced Hil-Sheen® Floor Wax.


​​1970's


  • ​​​Hillyard embarks on a new distribution strategy to better support customer needs by acquiring two janitorial distribution companies, and building a new full service janitorial distribution location in Minneapolis, Minn.

  • ​​Gold Medalist​® Gym Finish is introduced.​​ 


​1980's


  • ​​Invented water-based epoxy gym finish.

  • ​Introduced Contender® Gym Finish, a water-based epoxy finish that offers unmatched durability and clarity.

  • Acquired seven distribution companies and started Hillyard Sioux Falls.


1990's


  • ​​Major St. Joseph expansion results in a headquarters campus totaling 7.5 acres with over 700,000 sq. ft. under roof.

  • Acquired 12 distribution companies and started five more Hillyard distribution locations.


2000's


  • ​​​​Celebrated 100 Years of Innovation in 2007.

  • ​Awarded a U.S. Utility Patent for the Cleaning Companion®, an innovative, battery-operated, touch-free cleaning system.

  • Awarded a U.S. Design Patent for innovative dual chamber chemical packaging.

  • Introduced 1907® Gym Finish, an oil-modified urethane in a waterborne formulation​ that delivers exceptional coating results, certified by the USDA for its biobased content.​

  • ​​​Acquired four distribution companies.


2010's


  • ​​E​xpanded our manufacturing capabilities by building an FDA-inspected manufacturing facility to support our growing skincare business.

  • ​Introduced Affinity® Skin Care System, the all-in-one foam, liquid, or gel, sanitary, sealed dispensing system. 

  • ​Acquired RoVIC a major east coast janitorial supply distributor.

  • In​troduced the Multi-Flo® XP, an innovative coatings applicator designed to improve results and lower application costs. ​

  • ​Hillyard becomes the official floor mop of NCAA Basketball.

  • ​​Introduced Recon®​ Micro-layer Wood Sports Floor Coating - Changing the way the industry thinks about wood sports floor care.

  • ​​​Hillyard invests in redevelopment and expansion in downtown St. Joseph. Announces purchase of 25 acres of property owned by WireCo WorldGroup. Plans to build new, modern manufacturing and warehousing operations with goal of being fully operational by 2021-2022.
