Hillyard Redevelopment Project Hits Major Milestone as Demolition Begins on Former WireCo. Campus

October 7, 2020

Hillyard, Inc.’s redevelopment project hits its first major milestone as demolition begins Wednesday on the former WireCo World Group property in downtown St. Joseph.

The site, which is located directly north of Hillyard’s current facilities, has been turned over to local contractor Madget Demolition to begin the work. The property will be the site of the new 25-acre manufacturing and national distribution center for the 113-year-old company.

“We are extremely excited to be moving forward with this project,” said Hillyard’s Chief Administration Officer Brett Carolus. “Like Hillyard, WireCo has been a fixture in the downtown community for generations, and we understand the demolition may be bittersweet for some. Our goal is to be good stewards of the property as we continue to provide opportunities of growth and reinvestment in the downtown area,” Carolus said.

Demolition is expected to last six to nine months before construction can begin.

As a safety precaution, Hillyard encourages the public to stay away from the area as this will be an active demolition site.
